Meyram Maquine "Maquine"

Meyram Maquine Alves was born on October 29, 2000, in Manaus, the capital of Brazil's Amazonas state — a region far removed from jiu-jitsu's traditional hubs of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Like several Amazonian grapplers before him, Maquine had to relocate south to access the sport's highest level of competition, eventually settling in São Paulo state and joining Guigo Jiu-Jitsu, the academy built by Luiz "Guigo" Guilherme, himself a former ultra-heavyweight world champion and student of the Rickson Gracie lineage through Jorge Pereira.

Under Guigo's tutelage, Maquine developed into one of the most feared lighter-weight competitors of his generation. He was awarded his black belt by Guigo in 2020, and his rise from there was rapid. In 2021 he won gold at the IBJJF Brazilian National Championship in the light-featherweight division, serving notice that he belonged among the sport's elite. The following year he took the leap to a full IBJJF World Championship title, winning the 64-kilogram black belt division and defeating fellow rising star Diego Oliveira along the way — a rivalry that would recur throughout both men's careers.

2023 turned into arguably his most complete season on the international no-gi calendar. Competing under the AJP banner, he captured the Abu Dhabi World Pro title, widely regarded as one of the most prestigious tournaments outside the IBJJF's own World Championship, and added a gold medal at the AJP London Grand Slam in the same year. In 2024, moving up to the 70-kilogram bracket, he won a second IBJJF black belt World Championship, finishing Ademir Barreto by a choke from the back in the final — a finish that captured his style in miniature: patient positional grinding that erupts into a fast, decisive submission once the opening appears.

Maquine's competitive résumé, cited by ONE Championship at 135 wins against 16 losses across his career, places him among the most active and successful grapplers of his generation, spanning gi and no-gi rule sets alike. In 2025 he signed with ONE Championship's submission grappling division, making his promotional debut against Ruan Alvarenga at ONE Fight Night 46 in Bangkok — a rematch of a loss Alvarenga had handed him outside the promotion, giving Maquine a clear opportunity for retribution on a global stage.

What separates Maquine from many of his peers at featherweight and light-featherweight is his combination of volume and finishing instinct: rather than grinding out decisions, he consistently looks to end matches by submission, which has made him a fan favorite on the competitive circuit even as his résumé of major titles continues to grow.
