Isaac Doederlein

Isaac Doederlein was born on November 12, 1992, in Atlanta, Georgia. He began training in judo at age 11 before transitioning to Brazilian jiu-jitsu at 14 after relocating to Arizona, where he trained at a Gracie Humaitá-affiliated school under Wellington 'Megaton' Dias, Mackenzie Dern's father. At 18, Doederlein moved to Los Angeles to train full-time under Rubens 'Cobrinha' Charles, one of the most accomplished lightweight competitors in IBJJF history, joining as a purple belt and eventually earning both his brown and black belts under Cobrinha's instruction.

Doederlein's competitive record stretches back to his colored-belt years, including a blue belt World Championship title in 2010, and he built a steady, sustained presence on the IBJJF circuit through his teens and twenties. His results at lower belts, combined with tournament wins such as the 2017 US National Pro in Los Angeles and the 2018 San Francisco Open, established him as one of the featherweight division's most consistent competitors well before his signature achievement.

That signature moment came in 2022, when Doederlein won the IBJJF World Jiu-Jitsu Championship at black belt in the featherweight division, capping more than a decade of steady development under Cobrinha. He followed that result with continued strong showings on the IBJJF calendar, including bronze-medal finishes at the Pan Championship in multiple years and further deep runs at the Brazilian Nationals and World Championship through 2024 and 2025.
